This past week, I had the pleasure of participating in the celebration of the three year anniversary of Chicken Nugget Lemon Tooty. It's a blog set up by talented illustrator Aaron Zenz for his kids, Lily (age 6), Grace (age 9), and Isaac (age 10). On their blog, they post illustrations inspired by their favorite books and Illustration Friday topics, among other things.
As a surprise for the kids, to celebrate their three years, Aaron sent out an open invitation for artists to do their versions of his kids' art. The results are lots of fun. I did an illustration for each kid, but this was my favorite of the three. The top drawing was done by Isaac at age 8. The one on the bottom is my version.
Make sure to take a look at their site. This creative bunch turns out some pretty awesome stuff! Aaron is accepting submissions till the end of the month, so there's still time to do one. You might be surprised how inspired you can get from the creativity of a kid. To check out their site, click here.

I love all three of your contributions Michael. I think my favorite is the watermelon piece actually. I love the simplicity of it, and the fact that you only used colour for the slices of watermelon. I'm diggin' the look of it.
Very nice surprise. saludos paty
Really nice! It goes to show how much can be done with so little. Keep up the postings!
Outta this world... good!
It could seem the boy drawn after seeing your work. That´s why i like more your interpretation. Great the both.

Great new work! I've missed a few posts, but I lovem all. The dogs are really nice :D!
Love all your contributions. For me, the best thing about them is - you've retained the original simplicity so effectively that, one can interpret fan-art in both directions i.e., as if those kids being inspired by your stuff. Your work is always a pleasure to view :)
Thanks so much Michael for sharing your time and talent! All three pieces are amazing, and the kids loved them! What a treat!

I love it; you stayed true to the original artists vision! Nice shapes in there, and the colours are just right!
There was another site I saw with a dad who drew on his kids lunch bags every day...really cool!
Hi Michael, great work
All contributions are too funny and my fav is the moon piece, so expressive and inspiring
Hey! Thanks for the nice words. Actually, yours is my favourite amongst both the kid's and the adults works. The only reason I didn't pick this one is because I wouldn't have been able to add anything more. Yours is the way it could only be. I feel twice as flettered now that I've seen your work.
I love this sort of thing. It would be great to see a series of these.
